If I can give one word to describe Vail it would be: ‘surreal’.
You walk the streets and you feel like you are on a movie set. Everything is so clean, manicured and perfect. The air is crisp and the sound of the creek trickling in the background is surely where the record water running for sound machines. It’s truly unreal.
We were only there for 72 hours so we crammed a lot in and I am looking forward to going back to do more! If you love food and snow, this is the place for you! Typically I am a beach girl through and through but this trip really made me second guess that loyalty to sun and sand!
I feel like it goes without saying to go snowboarding or skiing in Vail so I will skip to the food and lounging portion of the trip!
1. Gondola Ride to The 10th
Dave doesn’t really snowboard or ski but I know he said one of his favorite things we did was ride the gondola up to have lunch at The 10th. The views you get on the gondola ride are unreal! If you don’t plan on skiing simply purchase a day pass at the lift ticket counter and make your way to The 10th for lunch. The food is good but the gondola ride is amazing!
2. Dinner at Sweet Basil
Sweet Basil for those of you that don’t know is one of the most iconic restaurants in Vail. I have eaten at many fine dining restaurants and I have never had a dining experience quite like this before. Everything was exceptional from the wine to the dessert. We had dinner with one of my best friends who lives in Vail and her boyfriend who is Chef of one of their sister restaurants so the kitchen made us basically everything on the menu. It was all fantastic! You can’t go wrong but I think Dave and I’s favorites was the Oxtail.
3. Margaritas at Mountain Standard
If you are looking for a place for a little apres ski, this is where you want to go! Not exactly a winter drink but its the very best margarita I have ever had. Their food is also exceptional! Don’t skip the pimento cheese!
4. Stay at The Lodge at Vail
From its location to the service, everything about this hotel is top notch. I called to make my reservation and the staff made sure we had a room near the hot tub per my request. The hotel decor was modern and clean, the rooms were updated, and the staff could not be more accommodating. Every request we had was met with such an eager attitude to help. Also if you have some downtime don’t forget to check out their spa! And let’s not forget the location. It is right next to gondola 1. I don’t know about you but when I am done snowboarding, I am done! The last thing I want is a long trek to my room. It’s also right next to all the best restaurants and shopping, and just a short walk to Starbucks. 🙂
5. Hot Tub in the Snow
